Physical Education

YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT: 1960

The department of physical education & sports was established in the foundation session 1960-61 in the compound of Sahitya Sadan, Abohar under the control of Prof. V. P. Raina (1960-63) who was an outstanding Boxer. Prof. Balraj Ji joined and worked in the department from 1963-1967. Prof. R. S. Phore joined the department in 1967 as H.O.D. He adorned various university clubs and societies viz. Board of Studies (Physical Education) of P.U. Chandigarh, Secretary Weight Lifting Club from 1971-2002, P.U. Chandigarh, Member of selection committee of Weight Lifting & Power Lifting, P.U. Chandigarh (Men & Women). First Lady Lecturer Prof. Mrs. S. Phore joined the department in 1968. From 2003-2004 Prof. Sonia Kanwar served the department and worked hard for the development of the department. In 2007 Prof. Sarbjit Singh joined the department. He was from D.A.V. College Jalalabad (W). A year later, Dr. Lakha Singh joined the department.

2014-2015

  • College Yoga Team (Men) won the Gold medal in Panjab University Inter College Yoga Competition. Manish Kumar won Individual Gold medal in Panjab University Inter College Yoga Competition. 5 students of the college were the member of Panjab University Yoga Team and won Bronze medal in All India Inter University Competition.
  • Kamal Jyoti won Individual Silver medal in Punjab State Yoga Championship.
  • College Archery Team (Men) won Bronze medal in Punjab University Inter College Archery Competition.
  • College Archery Team (Women) won Bronze medal in Punjab University Inter College Archery Competition.
  • Sudhir Kumar won Individual Silver and Bronze medal in Panjab University Inter College Judo Competition in two different weight categories. He also participated in National Judo Championship.
  • Prabhjeet Singh won Individual Bronze medal in Panjab University Inter College Boxing Competition.
  • Bhupinder Singh won Individual Bronze medal in Panjab University Inter College Wrestling Competition.
  • Lalit Kumar won Individual Bronze medal in Panjab University Inter College Wrestling Competition.
  • Harjinder Singh won Individual Gold medal in Junior State Wrestling Championship of Punjab and also participated in Junior National Wrestling Competition.

2015-2016

  •  College Yoga Team (Men) won Gold medal in Panjab University Inter College Yoga Competition for the successive 23rd time. 6 Boys and 1 Girl of the college are selected for All India Inter University.
  •   Kamal Jyoti won Individual Silver medal in Punjab State Yoga Championship.
  •  College Archery Team (Women) won Silver medal in Panjab University Inter College Competition.
  • Sudhir Kumar won Individual Silver and Bronze medals in two different weight categories in Panjab University Inter College Judo Competition.
  • Prabhjeet Singh won Individual Silver medal in Panjab University Inter College Boxing Competition.
  • College Cricket Team won Panjab University Inter College Competition of Cricket at Zonal level.

2016-2017

  • College Yoga Team won the Gold medal in Inter College Competition in the session 2016-17 for the successive 24th time in a row. College Yogis also got all the three individual positions as well. Manish Kumar Won Individual Gold Medal and was also declared Best Yogi for the 2016-17 sessions. Dinesh Kumar won individual Silver medal and Surinder Kumar won Bronze medal. It is a matter of praise that six members of our college are selected to represent Panjab University in All India Inter University Competition.
  •  Amandeep Kamboj won Individual Gold medal in 66th kg weight category in Inter college competition and was also selected for All India Inter University camp.
  • Sudhir Kumar won two Individual Bronze medals in 73 kg weight category and in the Open Weight category as well.
  • Lalit Kumar won Individual Bronze medal in 60 kg weight category.
  • College Chess Team (Women) won Silver medal in Inter College Chess Competition. Arshita of B.Sc.-3 also represented Panjab University in All India North Zone Inter University Competition and won Bronze medal.
  • College Archery Team (Women) won Bronze medal in Inter College Competition. Pooja Rani represented Panjab University in All India Inter University Competition.
  • Gourav and Vimal Bhobharia represented Panjab University in All India Inter University Competition.
  • Sudhir Kumar won Bronze medal in 75 kg weight category in the Inaugural Inter College Competition of Wushu.
  • College Cricket Team was victorious at Inter Zonal Level for another time.

EDUCATIONAL TRIP:

  •  A two days Educational Trip to Shri Anandpur Sahib and Naina Devi was organized by Department of Physical Education and Sports on 15th and 16th February 2017. During this trip students visited holy Virasat-E-Khalsa at Shri Anandpur Sahib, Gurudwaras at Shri Kiratpur Sahib and Naina Devi Shrine.

Annual athletic meet is the regular feature of the college in collaboration with Department of Physical Education & Sports right from the establishment of the college.
