LIBRARY

The college has a vast, voluminous and well equipped library that houses about 70,000 books. The “Lekhram Bhawan” was built with a motto “swadhyayanma pramadah” i.e. always indulge in self study. The library subscribes to about 20 national and regional news papers. It also provides access to over 3100 e-journals and 75000 e-books through UGC-INFLIBNET scheme under its N-list programme that throws open book shelves of reputed international and national digital libraries at one screen. The students get individual passwords to avail this scheme at PG level. There are two big reading halls with a seating capacity of more than 200 students at one time including one A.C. hall apart from other user friendly corners and spaces. The library provides book-bank and internet facility along with computerized catalogue. There is colossal collection of reference books. It also provides open shelf facility. The new arrivals and the career guidance sections are regularly updated. The library remains open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The staff is very cooperative to cater to the needs of the students. The learners are issued a library –cum-identity card on which they can get books as per the rules of the library.

BOOK-BANK FACILITY

The book-bank is maintained for meritorious and needy students and the books are issued for the whole session. Any fee concession, stipends, financial assistance, book-bank facility or any other facility granted by the college shall be withdrawn in the following cases:

Those who have not appeared in and passed the house tests or mid semester exams (September & December).
Who have not attended at least 75% of the lectures delivered up to date.
Who have not given all the class assignments.

EXTRA MURAL ACTIVITIES

EMA department has been established to hunt the hidden talent of students in fine arts, dance and music. India is the land whose traditional art forms are unparalleled in the world. Deeply rooted to the Indian ethos, they are mirror to the world that our cultural heritage is far better than theirs. The objective of EMA is to acquaint others with this rich culture of India. Every year, round about the month of September, best performers are selected in Talent Hunt competitions who further participate in various youth festivals at Zonal, Inter-Zonal and Intervarsity level. The student can participate in innumerable activities.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)

The students can join NCC while being in the college. The courageous, adventurous and physically fit students can avail his opportunity. There are about 40 parades in an academic year which are held on Sundays and other holidays. The students can appear for 'B' and 'C' certificates. Apart from these NCC organizes special guest lectures on various occasions. Cadets are sent to attend special camps at various outdoor stations. A few cadets are the pique of the college who have participated in events like Paragliding, Republic Day Parade etc.

MAGAZINE

The college publishes its magazine 'Seemant Jyoti' annually to build substratum for sublimation of creative energy of students. It also acts as a platform for dissemination of ideas. Students can contribute to any of the following sections: English, Hindi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, Computer, Physical Education, Fine Arts and News.

The Magazine exhibits thoughts and ideas of the budding creative artists on diverse themes. There are two student editors for each section who work under the guidance of their respective staff editors.

The students also maintain Wall Magazine and food for thought sections.

SPORTS

The college has luscious and well maintained play grounds. It aims at fabricating physical, mental and emotional health of the students. The teams unceasingly go for practice sessions and best athletes are sent for training also. The college has SAI's centre for Judo and Coaches for Archery and Athletics. The annual sports meet is held in the month of February and best athletes are duly rewarded. The college provides various amenities to the sports persons for the following games : Archery, Yoga, Boxing, Judo, Table-tennis, Volleyball, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Netball, Badminton, Power lifting etc. The students have won acclaim in various championships and competitions at inter-college, university and inter-university level.
'Yoga' centre is being run by the college under sports department. Yogi Sukhram trains the students who have been bringing honours to the college at University and interuniversity level competitions. We also run an add-on-course on Yoga and Mental Health.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

NSS provides an opportunity for the community feeling to the volunteers. The department has three units for boys and one for girls of one hundred students each. The volunteers are enrolled in the month of July. Every year one day and 7 days special camps are organized. The volunteers offer themselves for the welfare of the populace. They get involvement in various activities of the adopted village and create awareness against social evils. This gives them a sense of participation in building dream India by providing an outlet to satisfy their creative urges. NSS has also associated itself with Indian Red Cross Society that provides a platform to attend state level and national camps. It also selects students for international seminars. Apart from these, various days and weeks are celebrated throughout the year viz. World Population Day, Van Mahotsava and National Literacy Week and so on. The students are also nominated for state awards like Shaheed-e-Azam Yuva puraskar. They can also contribute to the magazine of Red Cross Society.

There is also a provision for educational excursions and volunteers are selected for RD parade and national integration camps.

HEALTH CENTRE

Dr. Saroj Miglani has been appointed as visiting physician & consultant. Health centre is kept open in the evening. Its chief objective is to provide first Aid, medicine and advice on health related problems.

SOCIETIES/ CLUBS

The college has a number of subject societies and clubs that organize various activities throughout the year. These include paper reading competitions, quiz, debates, poster making competitions, seminars, extension lectures etc. The societies and clubs functional in the college are :

REWARD FOR MERITORIOUS STUDENTS

Academic excellence is our prime concern. The college makes all efforts to motivate the students to achieve excellence and proficiency. Any student who turns out to be a University/ Board Topper or gets to hold any of the first five positions or secures a place in merit list or achieves first / second or third position in college will be duly rewarded.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Alumni Association has been constituted to bridge the relations between Alma Mater and its pass outs who hold prestigious positions in society, industry, education, administration etc. The institution aims to invite these stakeholders so that they contribute to its betterment.

Rajnish Ahuja, eminent industrialist of Ludhiana and an old student of the college is the president of the association. The objectives of the Association are:

To strengthen the link and tie of fellowship between the present students, members of the teaching staff of D.A.V. College, Abohar and the old students in the country and abroad.

To promote and encourage active interest in the progress and welfare of its members and

students by arranging programmes from time to time.

The college organises grand meets of its Alumni. During every meet, a directory of its members is published and distinguished alumni are honoured. The college organised its Alumni Meet in March, this year.

HOSTELS

The college has three hostels, one for boys and two for girls. The college hostels are well-built and furnished with ultramodern amenities. Smt. Raj Ahuja Memorial PG hostel for girls and the old UG hostel provide facilities like AC halls, gym, library, RO water purifiers, indoor games, internet etc besides providing basic amenities to the residents. The boys hostel is located near sports group and has all ultramodern facilities. The hostel wardens and the assistant wardens treat students with parental care.

PLACEMENTS

The placement cell of the college is quite active and invites various companies to visit the college and hold tests for students of various streams. The faculty members of science, commerce and computer applications work as a team to prepare the students for securing placements. 65 students got selected in placement drive by WIPRO, TCS, JIO, Infosys, IOL, CoCubes, Pizone and many more.

SCHOLARSHIPS, STIPENDS & FEE CONCESSION

The college grants fee concession and financial assistance to a large number of students on means cum merit basis. The basic purpose of this facility is to help and motivate the students to give their best.

NOTE: Scholarships, Stipends & Fee Concessions are for needy, poor & meritorious students, provided that the student will have to clear the condition of examination as well as be regular in the classes.
