Department of Mathematics was established in 1960, under the headship of Shri Om Parkash. He handed it over to Shri Ram Kishore Arora (1962-63) who with the help of Prof. Manjeet Bedi continued to make proper arrangements. Shri Brij Lal Rinwa (1963-1995) added charm to the college and the department as he was the member of discipline committee of the College, General Secretary of PCCTU, Senator (Twice) PU Chandigarh, Chief of BJP (Punjab) for a long time, Member of Discipline Committee (BJP) and also the member of DAV Managing Committee, viz. Prof. H. L. Dhuria (presently in Washington, USA), Prof. Kundra, Prof. Bhatnagar, Prof. O. P. Ahuja (Ethopia), Prof. Jarnail Singh Saini, Prof. Jasbeer Singh (1978-79), Prof. Manmohan Singh (1979-80), served this department during his departmental headship. He was followed by Prof. Anil Makkar, M.Sc., M.Phil. who joined the department in 1980 and got headship of the department from 1995 to 2018.

Presently Prof. O. P. Kalra (M.Sc., M.Phil.) is heading the Department. He joined the department in 1995. Also, Dr. Anita Pruthi (M.Sc., NET, Ph.D.)  is serving the department since 2006. The Department of Mathematics regularly conducts activities like Quiz Competitions, Paper Presentations and Extension Lectures, with active participation of students.
