Year of Establishment : 1985 

Department of Computer Science and Applications, DAV College, Abohar was on track in the early eighties. Initially short term courses were conducted by S. Balkar Singh Sandhu, Presently a big shot in Vigilence, on experimental Basis. He was followed by Mr. Pardeep Middha, Mr. Pardeep Bansal, Miss Avneet Kaur Sidhu and Late Sh. Mohan Lal Setia. Regular course from Panjab University Chandigarh i.e. B.Sc. (Computer Application) was started in 1994. 

Mr. Arun narang joined this department in 1995 followed by Ms. Sonika Narang in 1996. Under the guidance of Principal Sh. H.R.Gandhar, the department coordinator Prof. S.Dhingra, BCA course was added in 1997 & the department was first among all the colleges of Panjab University to get affiliation for this course.

Prof. K.K. Kalra  and Prof. S.K.Dhawan acted as a pushing force which rose the department to an altitude that DAv College Abohar, is a brand in computer education in the sorrounding area of more than 100 KMs. Ms. Shalini Khunger, Mr. Sunil Setia, Mr. Sanjeev Gumber, Dr. Sandeep Aggarwal, Ms. Gauri Jasuja contributed to the developments of the department during this period. 

The Department of Computer Science & IT is one of the youngest constituent units of the faculty of Natural Sciences. It was established in the year1985 as UG Department and 2002 as PG department with the objective of producing IT professionals of International Standard and to fulfill primary requirements of booming IT industry and develop researchers.

The department has modern air-conditioned computing labs, an air-conditioned seminar room, and a departmental library. The whole department is connected through LAN in order to provide modern teaching and learning environment and fast access to the Internet. In addition, the department has Wi-Fi connectivity.  All the labs, the seminar rooms and office are connected through LAN.
